Mark Lundstrom
Chief Executive Officer and Founder
Mr. Lundstrom’s professional background features leadership roles in several emerging technology companies in various industries. Mr. Lundstrom co-founded and served as the Vice President of Operations for Active Control eXperts, Inc. (ACX), a company that designed and manufactured piezoelectric components and systems used to control vibrations. ACX was acquired by Cymer (NASDAQ: CYMI). In the software industry, Mr. Lundstrom founded Ripcord Systems where he was President and Chief Executive Officer. Ripcord Systems developed wireless products and services that provide on-the-road employees with anytime, anywhere access to critical information from corporate enterprise systems. Prior to Ripcord Systems, Mr. Lundstrom was on the start-up team at Teledesic LLC, a company building the world’s first global broadband Internet-in-the-Sky™ network using advanced satellite technology. He has orchestrated fifteen financings for various early-stage companies and has built organizations across Europe and America.
Mr. Lundstrom earned his M.Phil. in Economics from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and an M.B.A. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. He earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. He has served on the Board of Directors of MIT for a five year term. He also founded and is Chairman of SkiAble, a charity that brings disabled children to sporting activities. Mr. Lundstrom holds 10 patents and has many others pending.
Paul R. Billings, M.D., Ph.D.
CEO, Cellpoint Diagnostics
Dr. Billings is a board certified internist and clinical geneticist, and was appointed President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Cellpoint Diagnostics (CPD) in February, 2008. CPD is backed by Mohr, Davidow Ventures, and seeks to revolutionize cancer care through the provision of products and services focused on circulating tumor cells. Dr. Billings is also Executive Chairman of Signature Genomics Laboratories, LLC, and serves on the Board of Directors of BioScale, Inc., Cyntellect Inc., Lipomics, Inc., and several not-for-profit public interest organizations. Until September 2007, he was Senior Vice President and Senior Geneticist at Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, Inc. He has been Professor of Anthropology (adjunct) at the University of California at Berkeley and has published extensively on topics in immunology, genetics and medicine. Dr. Billings also has interest and expertise in diagnostics in medical care and genomic medicine

Edward F. Crawley, D.Sc.
Professor of Engineering, MIT and Co-Founder, BioScale
Dr. Crawley is the Ford Professor of Engineering at MIT, and is also a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of Engineering Systems. His earlier research interests centered on structural dynamics, aeroelasticity and the development of actively controlled and intelligent structures. A founder of ACX, a Cambridge based product development and manufacturing firm, he served as its Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of from 1992 to 2000, at which time it was acquired by Cymer, Incorporated (CYMI).He is the author of numerous publications in the AIAA Journal, ASME Journal, Journal of Composite Materials, and Acta Astronautica, and is also credited with being one of the early contributors to the field of active structural control. Dr. Crawley has received several awards, including the AIAA Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Award, and the ASME Adaptive Structures Medal. He is a Fellow of the AIAA and the Royal Aeronautical Society (U.K.) and was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1998. Dr. Crawley earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics, as well as an Sc.D. in Aerospace Structures from MIT.
Bill Doyle
WFD Ventures
Bill Doyle brings more than 20 years experience in the healthcare and advanced technology industries as an entrepreneur, Fortune 50 executive, management consultant and investor. Prior to founding WFD Ventures, Mr. Doyle was Vice President, Licensing and Acquisitions for Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) Medical Devices and Diagnostics (MD&D) group of companies. He was a member of J&J’s MD&D Group Operating Committee and Chairman of J&J’s Medical Devices Research and Development Council. Additionally, Mr. Doyle was a member of the board of directors of Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, J&J's venture capital subsidiary. Mr. Doyle was also a Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners leading its healthcare and outsourcing investment practices. Earlier in his career, he was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. He also was involved in founding Durel Corporation, a joint venture of Rogers Corporation and 3M, and was the first employee of American Superconductor Corporation..
Bard Geesaman, Ph.D.
F2 Ventures
Dr. Geesaman joined the X Prize Foundation from MPM Capital, where he worked as a Venture Partner, assessing new investment opportunites and assisting in business development for existing portfolio companies. At MPM, he founded JapanBridge, an oncology pharmaceutical company in Tokyo that focuses on expediting drug development in Asia. Prior to MPM, he served as the Vice President, Medical Development for Elixir Pharmaceuticals, where he oversaw clinical strategy for drug development and the human genetics program, and was also involved in the company’s business development team. Coincident with these activities, Dr. Geesaman was a General Partner at F2 Ventures, a U.K.-based venture capital fund, and he continues to serve on the board of directors for these investments. His first experience in business immediately followed his medical training; Dr. Geesaman founded and was Chief Technical Officer of Catalyst Medical Solutions, where he designed and coded an enterprise application to enhance hospital revenue and improve medical documentation and compliance.
Somu Subramaniam
New Science Ventures
Somu Subramaniam co-founded New Science Ventures in 2004. He serves on several Boards of NSV's portfolio companies including Achronix Semiconductor, RF Arrays, Therox, BioVex, Receptor Biologix, and Celleration. He also is an observer to the boards of Light Sciences Oncology, Xoft and BioProcessors. Prior to starting New Science Ventures, Mr. Subramaniam was a Director at McKinsey & Company, and at various times led their Strategy Practice, Technology Practice and HealthCare Practice. While at McKinsey, he advised leading multinational companies in the pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, photonics, software and semiconductor industries. He was also a member of McKinsey's Investment Committee. Mr. Subramaniam earned his undergraduate degree (B.Tech.) from the Indian Institute of Technology, and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. |
